So The Candidate is..
I bet most of you who knows about my upcoming 'adventure' this Saturday will probably think that I am voting for Tony P., the DAP candidate whom I speak highly about. The matter of the secrecy of our vote aside, the area that I am staying in is not even in the constituency of PJ Utara where Tony P is contesting in.
Ever since nomination date, I was trying to search for the candidates' info at my constituency (Subang) but to no avail. Even the banners were only recently put up at my area and they are all adorned in dark blue- yes that particular party which has so much money to splurge on advertisements in the mainstream media!!
As I was surfing malaysiakini HERE about the abolishment of the use of indelible ink (btw, we all can now read malaysiakini for FREE for 7 days for the juicy election news<--I was told in the polling agent training just now, more about that next time), I stumbled upon the candidate for the opposition party contesting for the parliamentary seat in my constituency. WOW another OXFORD graduate o.O. On what I read HERE, he is indeed someone who has the calibre. The following italicised words illustrate my point:
This lawyer-cum-politician is a cancer survivor who lost his voice for almost a year due to thyroid cancer which damaged a nerve on his vocal cords. He had to speak with a little boom box and a speaker for a while due to this. Currently he has regained his voice but he says, “I can’t sing or shout, but at least I still can talk.”
- Graduated First Class in Genetics from University of Malaya.
- Read Law in Oxford University under the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.
- Senior Lawyer and former EXCO member of the Malaysian Bar Council.
- Founding member of the National Human Rights Society which was initiated by former PMs Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Hussein Onn; Founding member and director of Suaram and the Institute for Democracy and Reform.
- Married to Anne James, teacher, education advocate and renowned theatre actress. His siblings and their spouses - comprising all ethnic groups - reflect the ideal multicultural Malaysia.
- Vice-President of Parti KeADILan Rakyat. <--wah, dahsyat!! I had no idea before this!!
